Business students from Longley Park Sixth Form College got the chance to visit the UK’s first self- balancing scooter park in Ecclesfield, Sheffield. The educational trip to Swegway Park was to gain vital knowledge about the business and for students to implement what they learned during the visit into what they had been previously taught in their A Level Business course.

The informative visit included a half an hour business talk with the manager and owner, Tom Pyecroft and an hour operating the superb swegways. Swegways are a self- balancing two wheeled board, more commonly referred to as a hover board, which is a portable, rechargeable, battery- powered scooter.

Through the discussion session, the students learned all about the business and the progress it had made since the park opened in January 2017. The students also got the chance to ask lots of questions particularly ones directly linked to their studies, including how the owner started and financed the business.

A Level Business Studies Teacher, Julie Beaumont said: “The whole experience gave learners a real insight into how a new business starts from coming up with the idea, to raising the initial finance, writing a business plan and finding a suitable location. Learners got some first-hand knowledge about the difficulties and challenges that this new business start-up had faced and the vision for the long term future of the business. Learners had a great time after the business talk getting to grips with the swegways and building up their confidence and skills in using them.”
