Leading global manufacturer Esco have become the second company to move into the R-evolution @ Gateway 36 development, after completing a long-term lease of a 13,000 ft² unit.

Esco is a leading manufacturer of equipment for the laboratory, medical and healthcare markets. The company has a global footprint spanning the US, Europe and Asia. It will be expanding its healthcare division from its current UK base in Rotherham to the new M1 junction 36 development. The move will see the relocation of existing staff, with the creation of new jobs projected as Esco expands into its new home.

Colin Lonsdale Vice President for Esco Pharma Division said: “Esco’s Laboratory Division relocated to Barnsley over two years ago to subsequent success, making Barnsley a natural choice when the Pharma division outgrew its current location. In a very quick timeframe with the help of Knight Frank, we located the new facility which is 430 percent bigger, to meet business needs. We are very confident in continued growth and success, following suit of Esco’s other global locations.”

Esco is the latest company to join the R-evolution @ Gateway 36 following Swedish manufacturer Talurit UK, who were the first tenants to join the development earlier this year. The site is a 65,000 ft² high-quality mixed-use development supported by Barnsley Council’s Property Investment Fund. Established in 2014, the fund has helped to encourage new commercial developments and accommodate expanding local businesses within the borough.

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place said: “We are very pleased to welcome Esco to R- evolution @Gateway. The Property Investment Fund which supported the development has had great success in attracting economic growth to the borough and will help to create 298 jobs.

“The second stage of the fund will launch later this year and will work towards our wider plans to bolster confidence in the industrial property market within Barnsley. Helping to assist in bringing further development into the borough.”
