A man who used a blue badge belonging to his deceased mother to park in a disabled bay has been fined by magistrates.
Shaun Angell, 52, of Kent Avenue, Rawmarsh, was found guilty in his absence of using his deceased mother’s blue badge to park his vehicle in a designated disabled parking bay on Don Street, Rotherham, in July 2016.
Sheffield Magistrates fined Angell £115 with £300 costs and £30 victim surcharge when the case was heard on March 28th 2017.
Councillor Denise Lelliott, Rotherham Council's Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy, said "This is yet another example of a blue badge being used for the convenience of someone who was not entitled to use it.
“Using a blue badge fraudulently is bad enough but to use a deceased person’s badge is absolutely deplorable.
“Drivers need to consider whether it is worth risking a conviction to avoid having to walk a short distance or putting money in a ‘pay and display’ machine. If we catch drivers using blue badges without being entitled to do so, we will prosecute where it is in the public interest.”
