John NicholsonA 40-year-old man has been jailed for five years for a string of burglary offences in Sheffield.
John Nicholson (right), of no fixed abode, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday 13 April to be sentenced after pleading guilty of two counts of burglary at an earlier hearing.
The court was also asked to take into consideration a further five counts of burglary and two counts of theft of pedal cycles at sentencing.
On Wednesday 1 February and Tuesday 7 February 2017, police were called to investigate two reports of burglary in Sheffield city centre – one in a flat complex in Rockingham Street, the other in a flat complex in Westfield Terrace.
CCTV was retrieved from both buildings, which showed Nicholson at both locations – in one of the burglaries he took a distinctive watch from the property, which the victim confirmed was theirs when Nicholson was arrested on Wednesday 8 February.
He was charged with both burglaries and remanded into custody.
Acting Police Sergeant Ryan Griffiths said: “Nicholson is a prolific burglar who has received a considerable jail term for multiple burglaries in Sheffield.
“Burglary remains an incredibly intrusive and distressing crime, which can lead to victims feeling unsafe in their own homes.
“This is not acceptable and South Yorkshire Police works incredibly hard to ensure individuals that continue to commit these crimes are apprehended, charged and brought before the courts.”
