The world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band will be performing at the Mayor’s Charity Concert next Monday 24 April at the Emmanuel Methodist Church.
Formed in 1917, during the First World War, the band is a British institution. Competing in national and British Open Champions on numerous occasions, the band’s contest successes remain legendary. These include 16 Brass in Concert Championship titles, 11 times Yorkshire Regional Champions, two English National Championship victories, four times British Open Champions and four times National Champion Brass Band of Great Britain. The band has also been the recipient of two gold discs, as well as a BAFTA nomination for its contributions to the global hit movie ‘Brassed Off’ for which Grimethorpe was the focal point.
In addition to continuing to delight audiences across the globe, Grimethorpe Colliery Band also continues to invest in and support its local community. The performance at Emmanuel Methodist Church next week will be helping to raise funds for the Mayor’s charity, which this year is supporting those who are working to improve the lives of local people living with dementia.
The Mayor of Barnsley Cllr Linda Burgess said: “Grimethorpe Colliery Band will mark the end of this year’s Best of Barnsley series to celebrate the boroughs talented artistes and what a finale it’s going to be.
“This homecoming performance will provide a fantastic evening out, whilst at the same time helping to raise funds for some very special charities. So please make sure you don’t miss out and get your tickets to support local people living with dementia today.”
Limited tickets are still available for the evening at just £12 from the church office, which is open Monday to Friday 9am to 12pm or by calling 01226 321511.
