Works will start on Monday 6 February on the A628 Barnsley Road, Noblethorpe, to repair the retaining highway wall.

The works will refurbish the existing wall, returning the carriageway to two-ways and will take 12 weeks.

The scheme will take down and rebuild parts of the retaining wall which have currently failed, improve drainage and resurface over 90 metres of the carriageway.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during this time restricting the carriageway to one lane, approximately one kilometre west of Silkstone Garage for 125 metres.

A one-way diversion for HGVs travelling towards Barnsley will be in operation, with the route travelling through Thurgoland, Wortley, Birdwell and Worsbrough.

The A628 will be closed overnight (10pm – 6am) for 2 weeks from 13 February, to divert a high voltage electricity cable away from the works. The diversion will be the same as the HGV route.

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “The works will repair the existing wall and restore the carriageway back to two-ways, helping to improve access into Barnsley.

“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and co-operation during these works.”
