Leader of the Council, Councillor Chris Read, and Strategic Director of Children and Young People's Services, Ian Thomas respond to today's guilty verdicts in the Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) case at Sheffield Crown Court.

Councillor Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council, said: “I hope today’s verdicts can start to heal the wounds left by these awful perpetrators who targeted these victims when they were just children, thinking nothing of the lasting damage their actions would leave.

“We will not tolerate this sort of behaviour in our communities and today’s verdicts once again shows the strong commitment we have to working in partnership to stamp out this sort of crime and that it gives victims hope that they can trust us to listen to them and take their cases seriously. Perpetrators will be punished, so if you are a victim please come forward and let us help you.”

Ian Thomas, Strategic Director of Children and Young People’s Services at Rotherham Council added:“These are exceptionally brave women who have stuck through thick and thin to bring their cases to court and see the people who caused them so much suffering brought to justice.

“This verdict is the latest in a number of convictions for child sexual exploitation offences - both historic and contemporary - for Rotherham victims. We hope this sends a clear message to those who cause this awful crime – we do not want you, you are not welcome and you will be caught.”
